Very happy to announce our first Glyphs workshops in La Paz!

Workshop: make your first variable font

Friday 7 January 2022
approx 3 hours

In this quick and fun workshop, you will take your first steps in the font editor Glyphs. You will create a number of capital letters, then add a wide variant for each letter, and make the letters animate between narrow and wide in a web browser.

You will learn how to set up a font project, efficiently reuse shapes between letters, and create and test an OpenType variable font.

Workshop: turn your handwriting into a font

Saturday 8 January 2022
approx 3 hours

In this fun workshop, you will take a sample of your handwriting, and digitize a skeleton alphabet from it. You will derive several fonts from the same skeleton, including wide, narrow, light and bold variants. You will proceed to create alternate letters, as well as an OpenType feature that automatically swaps letters for their alternates as the user types.

At the end of the day, you will have learned how to produce a smart font, and make efficient use of dynamic and non-destructive methods in design.

In this workshop, you will get acquainted to all three major colorfont formats: SVG, sbix and CPAL, and know how to set up a colorfont and make it work across systems and browsers.
