Glyphs MCP 2
Connect your AI assistant to Glyphs 4
Glyphs MCP brings tools for working with your fonts into the conversation with your AI assistant. Ask about glyphs, inspect spacing and kerning, check OpenType features, or describe an edit you want to make. The assistant works with your open font in Glyphs, where you can inspect the result and continue designing.
Version 2 adds a native Mac companion app for setup, AI connections and font projects. Connect Codex, Claude Code, Claude Desktop or Cursor, and manage the Glyphs components from one place.
Ask for a preview when you want to examine a proposal before applying it. Complete supported edits can be applied under your request; warnings and incomplete results are presented for review. Applied edits remain unsaved until you choose to save.
Keep changes without saving, save the font, or use the recovery action offered for the operation. Supported built-in edits offer selective undo while their recovery window remains open. Native script recovery restores the saved font as a whole. Glyphs’ native Undo and Redo remain available for supported built-in edits.
Glyphs MCP supports focused tasks throughout a font project:
- Inspect glyphs, layers, outlines, metrics, kerning groups and stored pairs.
- Adjust advances and prepare spacing from reference glyphs.
- Set or remove exact kerning pairs, and check selected pairs for collisions.
- Prepare a first-pass slant or align start nodes across compatible contours.
- Use supported Glyphs commands for paths, components, anchors and metrics.
- Run OpenType feature compiler diagnostics and prepare static, variable and web-font exports.
You can also ask your assistant to help write Glyphs scripts and plugins. Supported native script jobs provide a separate route for custom font operations.
See a curvature comb directly on your glyph while drawing in Glyphs. The teeth and their connected tips make changes along a cubic curve easier to inspect. Teal and pink distinguish signed curvature; their colors do not rate the quality of a curve.
Curve Inspector is an optional companion that works independently of an AI connection.
Compare the active layer’s outlines and width with the last saved version, another font file or a Git reference. Reference Inspector appears as Changes Against Reference in Glyphs’ View menu. Mint reference geometry and cyan changes help you see where the current shape differs.
Use the overlay while refining a letter, then continue editing in Glyphs. The comparison is for layer geometry and width; it does not compare kerning tables or font metadata.
Organize font folders and start projects from templates in the companion app. Browse source differences, or compare individual glyphs in a .glyphspackage with visual overlays.
Optional local Git checkpoints record saved font versions when you save through MCP. Review those versions and their recorded actions, compare checkpoints, or restore an earlier font version through the guided workflow.
Beztrace turns clean PNG and JPEG glyph images into editable cubic Bézier outlines. Its independent Glyphs plugin lets you trace an image at its placement on the canvas, adjust the tracing settings, and keep the result for further editing. The Glyphs MCP companion provides setup guidance; the Beztrace plugin is installed separately.
Glyphs MCP 2 requires macOS 14 or later, Glyphs 4, and a supported AI client. Install the official Python module through Glyphs’ Plugin Manager and select the version labelled (Glyphs) in Settings → Addons.
Move Glyphs MCP.app to Applications and open Setup. Save your work and quit Glyphs before installing the components. Choose Install All to install the bridge and optional inspectors and configure the supported AI connections. Then reopen Glyphs and reload or restart your AI client as indicated.
The companion includes the server’s private runtime. No terminal setup is required for that runtime. Glyphs and any AI-client subscriptions are obtained separately. System Git is needed for Git references and checkpoints.
