2-Day Arabic Type Design Workshop

Sunday 6 through Monday 7 November, 2022
10:00–16:30

This half-day workshop draws on research output presented in Arabic Typography: History and Practice. It introduces participants to some of the most accomplished nineteenth-century Arabic-script types to be used as a source of inspiration. The attendees will be given several impressions of foundry types to choose from and develop their own design step by step. This process comprises hands-on engagement with printed artefacts and drawing letterforms to explore the potential of historical models in designing contemporary typefaces. Each participant will be able to develop their own digital drawings during the second (Glyphs App) workshop.
