Last year’s edition was a huge success, and we’re looking forward to learning and sharing more at this year’s ATypI Tech Talks.
Join rising stars and respected innovators from around the world, including to explore new insights, ideas, and advances in type tech, font engineering, typography, tools, platforms, formats, working groups, multiscript development, and more.
Besides attending the many presentations, workshops, demos, and panels, etc., you will be able to participate in speaker Q&As and engage in lively discussions. There will also be plenty of opportunities for networking and relaxed conversations.
Make Your Fonts Work in…
Fri 28 Oct 2022
8:00 AM - 9:00 AM EDT
Fonts cannot fix bugs in third-party software, but there are a few font engineering tricks that can help make your fonts work in the apps your clients care about. In this workshop, Rainer Erich Scheichelbauer will walk attendees through a possible workflow in Glyphs.

Beyond the Stroke
Fri 28 Oct 2022
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EDT
If Gerrit Noordzij was correct that the foundation of type design is in writing, then the vast majority of the typographic shapes must consist of the strokes. Noordzij has proposed an evaluation concept of typographic forms through stroke forms based on translation, expansion, and rotation. The concept is visualized in the Cubic diagram. Nonetheless, this stroke evaluation system has been studied primarily with outline-based tools.
This presentation studies the typographic stroke with LTTR/INK technology that allows drawing rich stroke shapes. Experimental results demonstrate the possibilities inspired by Huang’s perversion beyond the original Noordzij’s Cube and propose a new stroke evaluation parameter—Contrast Tilt.

Font Proofer: A New Chapter in Proofing Type
Sat 29 Oct 2022
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM EDT
If you design type, you won’t want to miss Peter Nowell’s demo of Font Proofer—a powerful new tool for generating proofs. Font Proofer has an intuitive UI for creating an assortment of proof layouts, editing repetitive spacing strings, and exporting PDFs. It’s fast, highly customizable, and compatible with both Glyphs and RoboFont.
While proofs are an essential part of the design and production process for every professional font, making them is often time-consuming, error-prone, or dependent on custom Python scripts. That’s about to change.
In addition to showing the tool, Nowell will peel back the curtain on the fascinating process of making Font Proofer over the past three years.
